No. Static sites, Node, Python and PHP Runners only need a folder or a repo, and UrlyUp handles the rest. Docker is there if you want it. Between the one-click catalog and "Fix with AI", you'll rarely need to edit YAML.
No. UrlyUp doesn't open any ports on your Mac. The public URL is an encrypted connection that ends inside the Runner's isolated space, so traffic reaches your Runner without going through your Mac's own network setup.
Quitting closes the window, and you choose whether hosting keeps running. UrlyUp can start Mac Hosting automatically when it launches, so your Runners come back by themselves. It also saves your data on shutdown so nothing is lost.
With Live App on, your Runners stay up even when your Mac is offline. Without it, they're up while your Mac is awake and hosting is on. If you want them always on without Live App, keep the Mac awake. A Mac mini on a shelf works well for this.
Self-hosting is free with no limits. Live App, which keeps your Runners reachable when your Mac is offline, is $4.99/mo and includes up to 1 GB of storage. Self-hosted apps run on your own Mac, so there's no charge per app or per URL. The bandwidth to serve them to your users is free too.
It's the only account step. Apple confirms who you are but shares very little with us, and you can hide your email if you want. Knowing each account belongs to a real person lets us deal with abuse on the network. It also means there's no separate password to manage.
